Marana is only minutes away from Tucson International Airport via an easy drive on the Interstate 10 freeway. For the airplane enthusiast or traveler, there are also two general aviation airports conveniently located in Marana.
Marana Regional Airport
The Marana Regional Airport, formerly known as Avra Valley Airpark, is a general aviation reliever airport for Tucson International Airport. It is located northwest of Tucson and 5 miles west of Interstate 10 on Avra Valley road. It was purchased from Pima County by the Town of Marana in 1999 and saw approximately 110,000 takeoffs and landings in 2010. The airport’s fixed base operator (FBO) is provided by Tucson Aeroservice Center.
Tucson International Airport
Tucson International Airport is Tucson’s gateway to the rest of the world, servicing all of Southern Arizona with 6 major participating airlines and over 60 daily departing flights. Covered parking is available and various ground transportation services are available to get to and from the airport. Tucson International is also dedicated to the non-commercial pilot, with 60% of its traffic coming from general aviation activity.
Pinal Airpark is located just north of Marana, AZ and serves primarily as a reliever airport and “boneyard” for civilian commercial aircraft. Maintenance and service for aircraft are performed by Marana Aerospace Solutions. Although the airpark is currently a county-owned, public-use airport, it has a long history of ties with the military dating back to 1942.
